On our recent trip to Bali, we stayed at Bulgari’s second venture (the first in Asia) into the enterprise of hotels and resorts. Did our stay live up to our expectations? We answer this question with a resounding yes!

Location:

Bulgari Hotels and Resorts Bali is strategically situated, allowing for extreme privacy and tranquility. However, guests are afforded easy access to the hub of touristy restaurants and shops, located a quick 45-minute drive away. Or should you desire more quick and private transport, Bulgari Resort Bali has its’ own helipad! The resort is located Cliffside, 150 meters above the shore and private beach. From our private villa to the restaurants and down to the beach, we enjoyed unparallel views of the Indian Ocean.

Ambiance:

Bali meets Italy is a rudimentary description of this elegant property. Resort designer, Antonio Citterio, seamlessly blends the esthetic of Bulgari’s Italian roots with local Balinese character. The meandering stone pathways feel like you are in medieval Europe, yet the meticulously maintained flowers and vegetation, as well as the teak woodwork and coconut thatched roofs, give the distinctive feel of Bali. Elegant, private, and distinctly “Bulgari”, guests are transported to a place of pure luxury. One important note: the resort is flush with stunning stonework and walkways. We learned that in constructing the property, local traditions were upheld and each stone was hand carved and set into place. Simply amazing!

Villas:

Each of the property’s 59 stand-alone villas is situated so that no other guests or staff may peek into your own personal compound. Entering your villa’s gate, there is a hand carved stone pathway that leads to an outdoor living and dining area. The villa’s private infinity pool opens up to a spectacular view of the Indian Ocean. Once inside, we were amazed by the lovely bedroom and comfortable bed. There are two toilets, and expansive bathroom and a spacious outdoor shower. Naturally, Bulgari Resort Bali treats guests well with a fantastic array of brand-name toiletries and a welcome gift of a lovely handcrafted beach bag, two sunhats, and a hand fan (very helpful for guests like us who are unaccustomed to the heat and humidity)! By the way, rest assured if you enjoy the outdoor shower or skinny-dipping in your villa’s pool. Each villa is that private! No wonder why so many honeymooners choose to stay at the property!

Beach:

Although it might be difficult to leave the comforts of your own villa, a visit to Bulgari Resort Bali’s beach is a MUST! To reach the beach situated 150 meters below, guests ride one of the world’s longest inclinator (“elevator”) to the private beach club. The open-air car provides guests with a one of a kind trip that very few people in the world have experienced (only resort guests may access the property’s beach). The extremely smooth and private ride allows for stunning views and great opportunities to capture the moment with photos and video.

The beach club is a very private and personalized experience. We enjoyed lounging beachside with cocktails and wine. The beach butler ensured our water glasses were continually topped off. Tom and I have been to many beaches around the world and this was the most spectacular. Although guests aren’t allowed to swim due to the large waves and rip current, we enjoyed mesmerizing views and sounds of the enormous waves crashing into the rocks. The water was so clear that we enjoyed viewing the coral from above the water.

Dining:

The resort offers lunch fare featuring fresh seafood, salads, and burgers at La Spiaggia, located at the beach. A great option for guests lounging at the beach club!

Il Ristorante is the property’s formal Italian Restaurant has received many accolades, including “Best Hotel Restaurant in the World”. A great place to dine for a spectacular experience.

Sangkar Restaurant is the resort’s Indonesian Restaurant, serving upscale variations of local food. The breakfast buffet is also located here, and it was absolutely delightful. Our favorite meal by far, we enjoyed the personalized soup creations and an array of local delicacies.

The Bar, is a fantastic place to gather with new friends to enjoy the lovely sunset. We enjoyed chatting with other guests, nibbling on tasty snacks and pizza (we had to, it’s an Italian based property)!

Summary:

From arrival to departure, guests are spoiled with their own personal butler to cater to and needs and desires. Bulgari Resort Bali is a fantastic place to celebrate special occasions such as weddings (a famous Japanese artist wed during our stay!), honeymoons, and life in general. However, we do not recommend this property for families with young children. Instead, this is truly a spectacular place for adults to unwind, recharge, and be supremely pampered.
