Lora has strong ties to Hong Kong as it’s her father’s hometown. It’s a chance to explore the sites of her father’s childhood and a time to create new memories.
When we don’t stay with Lora’s relatives, we splurge and stay at one of our most favorite hotels in the world: The InterContinental Hong Kong.  This hotel is ideally located in Tsim Sha Tsui along the Victoria Harbor waterfront. The central location makes for an easy walk to the waterfront, Nathan Road (shopping!), the MTR (subway), ocean terminal (cruise ship docking area and a sprawling high-end shopping mall) and the iconic Star Ferry. Better yet, wander the side streets to discover independent shops and restaurants that feel worlds away from the chaos.

Upon arrival, the hotel’s white gloved service (literally!) begins. Entering the hotel, you are greeted with the most breathtaking view of Victoria Harbor and Hong Kong Island. The hotel takes advantage of its’ location with floor to ceiling windows to showcase the incredible sight. Since we already splurged to stay at this incredible location, we go all out and upgrade to the “Club Intercontinental”. This upgrade entitles you to use of the “club”, a lounge with sweeping views of the harbor. The club features the most delicious cup of coffee (high praise coming from Seattleites!), an incredible breakfast buffet with made to order meal options, a proper afternoon tea, and evening cocktails featuring top shelf liquor and Moet & Chandon champagne- all served with an extensive selection of hors d’oeuvres. Throughout the day, you can also stop by for an array of non-alcoholic beverages, use of the business center, and to just relax. Upgrading to the “club” also provides upgraded toiletries, a daily basket of fresh fruit, and high-speed internet access. If you choose to upgrade, it is advisable to book in advance of your arrival. To ensure excellent service and overcrowding, the number of club reservations is limited.

The hotel has a beautiful spa and up to date exercise facilities. If you wish to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, the pool area and gardens provide an amazing retreat. Where else can you relax in an infinity hot tub overlooking Victoria Harbor? For joggers, the best way to start the day is to go for a run along the waterfront. Upon return, you are greeted with bottled water and a cool washcloth. There are a variety of restaurants to choose from. The options range from dining lavishly at a celebrity chef’s restaurant (Nobu or SPOON by Alain Ducasse) to the more casual lobby lounge. With seven dining options, there is always something that suits your taste.
Whether you are in Hong Kong for business or pleasure, the InterContinental Hong Kong is an incredible hotel in a city where luxurious hotels abound.
