When we travel, we are always searching for delicious food and excellent drinks.  St. Kitts and Nevis has some wonderful places to hang-out with locals and tourists alike. What is the first thing Lora wants when we land in St. Kitts?  Rum punch!  Rum punch abounds in the Caribbean and St. Kitts and Nevis is no exception.  Every bar and restaurant has their own version.  Lora has tried them at every place we visit (it’s for research purposes, of course!)  Some of her favorite places for rum punch include: Shipwreck (the best!), the Marriott casino bar, and Sunshines.  Other places have incredible rum punch as well, but these three places stand out.  From some clever investigative work, we’ve discovered that most of our favorite places have the typical “mixer” of passion fruit juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, and lime.  The cocktails are finished off with a few dashes of Angostura bitters and freshly grated nutmeg.  It’s the ratio of juices and the type of rum that gives each place their own unique twist on the rum punch.

During our “research” we’ve also discovered some rum punches to avoid.  Any bar at the Marriott (with the exception of the Casino bar) and Rituals Sushi.  These establishments serve far too sweet versions of the punch.  Instead, try a locally produced beer.  Tom enjoys Stag beer (a “mans” beer) or Caribe (it’s rumored that St. Kitts’ version of Caribe has a higher alcohol content compared with other islands).  Or try another tropical cocktail such as a mango daiquiri (the daiquiri at Reggae Beach is a favorite)!
