We have assisted a number of people with their honeymoon planning. With so many fabulous destinations from which to choose, deciding on a retreat location can be challenging. If you and your significant other are looking for luxurious resorts, stunning beaches and crystal blue waters, beautiful landscapes, exciting urban cities, and fascinating culture, look no further than Southeast Asia.
We have traveled extensively throughout SE Asia and have stayed at some of the finest properties in the World. The following is a selection of our recommendations for top honeymoon resorts in Southeast Asia.
If you think Phuket is a destination only for backpackers and partyers, think again! Private and secluded, Trisara attracts luxury travelers and VIPs alike. Situated on a quiet cove with a long stretch of private beach, Trisara is an exclusive oceanfront resort that caters to travelers seeking a private and special holiday experience that is also eco-friendly. In fact, you may find yourself sipping cocktails as the sun fades into the Andaman Sea next to members of one of the world’s top bands.
The property’s lush forest and exotic gardens transport guests to a tropical oasis. 48 luxury pool villas are staggered along the resort’s hillside. Each villa melds seamlessly into the landscape, creating a sense of privacy as well as being respectful of the surrounding environment. Whether you want to get out and do it all or simply lounge by your private pool overlooking the ocean, Trisara will cater to all your heart’s desires.
Be sure to take advantage of DDEN. This forward-thinking amenity allows guests to document their vacation and to return home with professional quality videos and photographs. The resort allows guests to check out a GoPro to chronicle their activities. After everything is recorded, Trisara’s resident technology expert (similar to assistance at an Apple Genius Bar) will assist guests with editing. Each person is sent home with a final product to share with friends and family. There’s no better way to document your honeymoon than with professional assistance! Trisara’s “Genius Bar” will help you chronicle your stay so that you can always return to your honeymoon at “The Garden in the Third Heaven” (Trisara, in Sanskrit).
Siem Reap captivates with the ruins of Angkor, incredible food, and entertaining nightlife. Spending your honeymoon in Cambodia’s cultural capital deems it necessary to stay in the city’s most exclusive property: Amansara. Previously the guest villa of King Norodom Sihanouk, Amansara now hosts 24 exclusive suites, set in a tranquil garden sanctuary just steps from the town’s center and Angkor’s temples.
Your honeymoon begins with transportation to the property in a vintage Mercedes limousine with driver and attendant dressed in impeccable white uniforms. Chilled mineral water and lemongrass scented cooling cloths were available for freshening up.
The Amansara experience is all about individualized treatment. Included in the rate is two daily excursions with your own personal guide and driver. You are transported to sights throughout Siem Reap via your own remork (a motorized, upscale tuk-tuk). Your guide will take you to places other tourists don’t have access.
Although you need to visit the sights around Siem Reap, do be sure to plan a free day to lounge at the property. Enjoy live musicians playing discreetly throughout the property. Attend one of the hosted concerts or dances. Spend an entire evening sipping on cocktails and dining at Amansara’s incredible restaurant that features forward-thinking Khmer cuisine.
Take a cooking class. Start off on a morning tour with Amansara’s chef to a local market. Then take your goods to Amansara’s Khmer Village house which hosts the cooking class. You prepare up to 5 courses which you then get to enjoy. Recipe cards are available for you to take home to share with friends and family.
Bali is renowned as an incredible honeymoon destination. With its’ stunning beaches and beautiful countryside, who can argue? If you are looking for a beach experience, Bulgari Hotels and Resorts Bali is strategically situated, allowing for extreme privacy and tranquility while oozing supreme elegance and ultimate luxury. The resort is located Cliffside, 150 meters above the shore and private beach. From your private pool villa to the restaurants and down to the beach, you enjoy unparalleled views of the Indian Ocean.
Bali meets Italy is a rudimentary description of this elegant property. Resort designer, Antonio Citterio, seamlessly blends the esthetic of Bulgari’s Italian roots with local Balinese character. The meandering stone pathways feel like you are in medieval Europe, yet the meticulously maintained flowers and vegetation, as well as the teak woodwork and coconut thatched roofs, give the distinctive feel of Bali. Elegant, private, and distinctly “Bulgari”, guests are transported to a place of pure luxury. One important note: the resort is flush with stunning stonework and walkways. We learned that in constructing the property, local traditions were upheld and each stone was hand carved and set into place.
Although it might be difficult to leave the comforts of your own villa and personal butler, a visit to Bulgari Resort Bali’s beach is a MUST! To reach the beach situated 150 meters below, guests ride one of the world’s longest inclinator (“elevator”) to the private beach club. The open-air car provides guests with a one of a kind trip that very few people in the world have experienced (only resort guests may access the property’s beach). The extremely smooth and private ride allows for stunning views and great opportunities to capture the moment with photos and video.
Mandarin Oriental Bangkok
If your honeymoon takes you to Bangkok, there really is no other place to stay than at the legendary “Oriental”, Mandarin Oriental Bangkok. Classic elegance exudes throughout the property. For over 135 years, “La Grande Dame” has hosted royalty, dignitaries, movie stars, and guests like us with equal respect and exceptional service. The Oriental’s original building is still fully functional and a visit to this area of the property helps you to fully appreciate the historic significance of the hotel.
Each floor has a butler assigned to take care of your every whim. Each morning, you are greeted with a fresh fruit basket with contents changing daily. At night, you receive hors d’oeurves and a sweet treat. The Oriental is renowned for their macaroons and it is nice to receive a box of these delicious treats.
The Oriental is truly an urban oasis. Spend time touring Bangkok’s amazing temples and markets. However, reserve a day to take advantage of all The Oriental offers. The spa is a must visit to unwind in extreme tranquility. Take a cooking class at the property’s legendary cooking school. The Author’s Lounge on the first floor of the original building hosts Afternoon Tea. This is an experience that should not be missed! From the lovely, garden-inspired furnishings to the soft live music playing in the background, guests are transported back to colonial times. The menu has two pages of loose leaf tea from which to choose. Not a tea drinker? No worries. The coffee is delicious. And the three-tier tower of sweet and savory delights…to die for! Be sure to bring an appetite!
For an unforgettable dining experience, treat yourself to a 2 Michelin star meal at Le Normandie. It will surely be a highlight of your stay. Afterwards, enjoy a nightcap at the Bamboo Bar. This iconic bar serves extraordinary craft cocktails in a newly renovated setting that transports you back to the sublime 1950s.
Koh Samui is one of our favorite places to send honeymooners. The island is fascinating. There are fantastic snorkeling and diving spots, lively night markets, and beautiful beaches. Six Senses Samui is situated on a stunning site that has expansive views of the north coast of Koh Samui as well as the south coast of neighboring island, Koh Phangan. Overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, we were treated to spectacular views of the sea and islands. Each arrival to the outdoor pavilion is greeted by the reception team as well as their own personal GEM “Guest Experience Maker” (aka, personal butler). This personalized attention exemplifies everything the resort is about: individualized attention for each guest.
Six Senses Samui’s grounds are integrated within the natural landscape. All 66 of the villas were completely renovated in 2015. The updated villas are stunning and maintain the feel of being a luxury eco-resort. Light tone wood and an open layout lend a feeling of airiness. The villa’s large floor to ceiling windows brings the outdoors, indoors. The shower walls can be opened up, giving a true outdoor shower experience. Also, over 90% of the villas have their own pools, allowing guests to have their “resort” experience to themselves…if that is desired.
Six Senses’ Dining on the Rocks is a special dining venue for all guests to enjoy. Dining on the Rocks is a spectacular culinary event that should not be missed when visiting Koh Samui. Overlooking two islands and the Gulf of Thailand, Dining on the Rocks views cannot be beaten! The restaurant feels very intimate, consisting of 10 platforms on various levels. It’s almost like you and a handful of other people have the restaurant and property to yourself!
Southeast Asia is one of our favorite places to recommend honeymoon couples consider when selecting a destination. There is so much to see and do. Also, travel within the region is simple and inexpensive allowing honeymooners the ability to easily visit more than one city during their special getaway. Also, the area offers good value for the extreme luxury properties, making a honeymoon more affordable than you may think.
