Luxury travelers to Vietnam looking for a place to relax and recharge in a charming beach area with few tourists need not look any further: Newly opened Anantara Quy Nhon Villas fits the bill!
Quy Nhon is a lovely beach town and centrally located in Vietnam that remains mostly untouched by tourism. This is where the Anantara Quy Nhon Villas is located as well. If you don’t mind traveling out of the way from the typical tourist trail to discover the “real” Vietnam, we highly recommend this resort.
We can anticipate the tourism industry in the region will develop immensely over the next several years. Until that time, explore this beautiful area before it gets exploited. The adjacent mountains provide the perfect setting for a day hike. The surrounding area has beautiful cultural attractions and ruins. The ocean is home to a thriving fishing industry, and local restaurants serve freshly caught seafood that is prepared to order. The beach and ocean are stunning! Free of vendors peddling products.
Currently, the resort can be reached by limited flights into the local airport. If you’re adventurous like us, we traveled by hired car service along with an English speaking guide. To reach the Anantara, we drove approximately 5 hours from Nha Trang. Upon departure, we drove about 6 hours from Quy Nhon to Hoi An. Both drives allowed us to see the coastal areas of Vietnam that most do not experience. Anantara is also working on developing a train service between Hoi An and Quy Nhon (2019?).
This resort is Anantara’s newest addition to Vietnam’s luxury travel market. We stayed in early December and were one of the resort’s first guests. The 7-acre property consists of 26 beachfront and ocean view villas overlooking a private cove which is dotted with colorful, local fishing boats. The private property has villas and the gym on one side with the restaurant, resort pool, and bar on the other. The property is private and walkable. However, buggy service is available if desired. We enjoyed strolling the freshly manicured pathways and walking along the beach.
We stayed in a beachfront villa and highly recommend this category. Just outside the villa is a private outdoor living space complete with loungers, a day bed, and an infinity pool. All of these are directly adjacent to the spotless beach. The room is clean and modern. The large bathroom offers both indoor and outdoor shower options as well as an oversized soaking tub. One of the most impressive amenities is a rather large size minibar refrigerator. It allows room for us to chill extra bottles of water and baby bottles (our son prefers his bottles cold!) Also, all non-alcoholic beverages are included so feel free to sip away on soda, juice, and sparkling water. There are numerous outlets for charging devices which is so essential nowadays! One of the best things, however, is the sound of the waves lulling us to sleep at night. Nothing beats that for a restful night’s sleep!
Sea Fire Salt is the resort’s signature restaurant that is open all day. Breakfast is a la carte. However, everyone receives a smoothie of the day, a bountiful bread basket filled with tasty pastries, a huge fruit platter, cheese and meat tray, and a variety of yogurts. Tom and I both enjoyed the pho and Kai loved the pork congee. And, of course, the iced Vietnamese coffee was perfectly strong and sweet. For lunch and dinner, be sure to try some of the very interesting infused salts to compliment your meal. Or have your meat and seafood served on a Himalayan sea salt block.
For special occasions, we highly recommend a personalized dining experience. During our stay, we had an “In-Villa Barbeque.” The resort’s chef set up a grill and cooking station on our villa’s patio, while a team of 6 arranged the outdoor living space for al fresco dining. Our fabulous dinner started with a platter of sushi and cocktails. The staff remembered our favorite beverages and brought them to our villa for this fantastic dinner. Next, we had the freshest seafood course with everything grilled perfectly. As we dined, we watched the sunset and enjoyed each other’s company. Unfortunately, our 14-month old decided he had enough, and I put him to bed while Tom finished the meat course highlighted by perfectly prepared rare-medium rare Kobe beef steak. If you are able, definitely work with the restaurant staff to prepare an exceptional dining experience for you and your companions!
In addition to lounging and swimming at our villa’s pool, we recommend spending time at the resort’s centrally located pool, complete with a swim-up bar. After swimming in the pool and ocean and long strolls on the beach, we encourage you to check out the Spa.
The spa is located at the top of the property and boasts impressive views of the ocean and resort. The treatment room is lined with floor to ceiling windows so that you are never too far from the picturesque scenery. One of the unique aspects of the treatment room is the outdoor bathroom. There is an outdoor toilet! Tom and I had deep tissue couples massages, and he claims it was the best massage of his life.
Since Quy Nhon has little tourism infrastructure, please depend upon the staff at Anantara to take care of your excursions. We went on a half-day sightseeing tour of the surrounding area. We went to Lang Song Church (a girls school that has an old printer and books on display), Banh It Tower (temple towers of the Champa Dynasty), and Thien Hung Pagoda (where a 14-year old monk does fortune telling). Being culinary enthusiasts, we also had to check out local’s restaurants. At the end of the tour, we requested to go to a seafood restaurant. The driver took us to his favorite place, and we had a fantastic meal of fresh out of the water lobster, snails, and clams. Another afternoon for lunch, we went to Huu Lai. It is a restaurant that serves chicken. We chose to have a ½ fried chicken and ½ steamed chicken. The meal was fresh, and the sauces were so flavorful. Please be sure to have someone on staff go with you to local restaurants to ensure that prices are fair and preparation is sanitary.
Although this Anantara doesn’t have a dedicated children’s program, we felt Kai (a 14-month old) had an incredible stay. The Avani, Anantara’s sister property next door, has a kids club that can be utilized. However, we never used it because there was so much for Kai to do at the Anantara!
The staff provided Kai with toys to play with on the beach. He had so much fun shoveling sand! And Kai loved playing in the pool. He is a budding beach and water lover! On a couple of occasions, for our massage and dinner one evening, we had babysitting services secured. The staff took excellent care of our little guy!
Anantara Quy Nhon Villas is a much-needed addition to Vietnam’s luxury hotel market. The resort offers guests an opportunity to travel to an undiscovered region of central coastal Vietnam and stay in high-end accommodations similar to those found in tourist industry developed areas such as Hoi An. Check out the local fishing villages and visit nearby cultural sights (currently free of other tourists!) Then return to the Anantara for bespoke accommodations and exceptional hospitality. This property is fantastic for all wanting to see Vietnam off the beaten track.
