New York City has undergone a huge transformation over our first visit over 20 years ago (wow, that dates us!)  Gone are the days when Times Square was the hub of shady dealings.  Now, it is a place for families to gather and see the huge neon signs amidst beautiful Broadway theaters and chain restaurants and stores.  The City is also improving leisure space throughout other neighborhoods.  One of our favorite green spaces is the High Line (thehighline.org).  This elevated park was built on an abandoned freight rail line.  It runs from Gansevoort Street to West 34th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues.  We also enjoy the energizing tranquility of Central Park.  Union Square is a wonderful and easily accessible meeting point.  It is also home to the wonderful Union Square Greenmarket (an amazing farmer’s market).  Although you think of Manhattan being a sea of skyscrapers, there are incredible spots throughout the numerous neighborhoods to decompress and unwind.

One great thing about living in New England is that New York City is easily accessible.  This makes a spontaneous weekend trip to the City possible. If it’s a beautiful day and we get the urge to explore different neighborhoods and sample different foods in the City, we look for last minute hotel deals.  We usually look at hotwire.com and the app, Hotel Tonight.  We also like to drive into the City.  Since, parking can be pricy, we look for deals on Groupon (groupon.com).  Oftentimes, we will find half price parking deals.

Our posts on NYC will focus on what we love best: food and fun.  We will highlight our favorite restaurants and hotels.  Please join us on our ongoing discovery of this magnificient city!
