To cap off our 2-week journey, we decided to spend the last two nights at The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain.
The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain is a stunning, Forbes 5-star rated resort. Although it is a quick 25-minute drive from Tucson, Arizona, the property feels worlds away. Located in the Sonoran Desert with the beautiful Tortolita Mountains in the background, Tom and I got an overwhelming feeling of tranquil peacefulness during our stay.
While guests at The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain, Tom and I enjoyed the fantastic array of activities offered. We spent our first day lounging by the pool. Although we were there during the intensely hot summer, splashing down the waterslide cooled us off. Yes, we rode the waterslide, and it was surprisingly fast and fun! We also enjoyed complimentary snacks of frozen fruit and chilled fruit infused water. A cocktail at the pool bar was also appreciated. Our bartender made us a specially frozen daiquiri off the menu using freshly sliced mango. Deliciously refreshing!
Evening Leisure and Dining:
At 5 PM each night, a flutist plays music inspired by the area’s Hohokam Indians to usher in the evening. Listening to the beautiful sounds and seeing the most beautiful pink and purple-hued sunset was the perfect way to begin our first evening at the property. Afterward, Tom and I enjoyed a fantastic dinner of ribeye and asparagus at CORE Kitchen and Wine bar. Our server, Stephen, and head chef, JC made our meal an over the top experience to celebrate our joint birthdays! Following a fantastic dinner, we stopped at Ignite, the lobby bar that offers commanding views of the mountains. We chatted with other guests while we sipped on wine and enjoyed the ambiance.
The property offers group classes each morning. The next day, I woke up early to join a class featuring free weights mixed with cardio. Afterward, I went on a short hike around the mountains. Truthfully, it was brief because I didn’t want to see a snake while hiking on my own. There are so many other activities that I wanted to try, such as mountain biking and tennis, but we just ran out of time.
The Ritz-Carlton is a quick drive to Tucson. We decided to leave the property for lunch and explore the surrounding area. Tom and I found a great place to try the local classic: the Sonoran Dog. We also got our Asian “fix” at a great Szechuan Restaurant.
Every Friday evening, the property’s sommelier offers a guided tasting with charcuterie. We sampled two whites and two reds. Tom and I didn’t enjoy the whites, so we got to taste and additional red. Word to the wise: if you aren’t happy, speak up rather than complain after the fact. Most people are accommodating.
Tom and I enjoyed our stay in the Sonoran Desert at The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain. It is a stunning property that exemplifies refined luxury. With top-notch service, fantastic amenities, and a great location, we highly recommend a stay at this resort that is great for all occasions: a couple’s getaway like us as well as for family vacations or business trips.
