This stretch of beach is a favorite of ours. The sand is lovely, and the beach is situated on the calm waters of the Caribbean Sea. If you enjoy basking in the sun, lounge chairs are plentiful. Shade is also available for people who love the warmth but need a break from the intense Caribbean sun. The bathroom facilities are clean and well maintained. An outdoor shower is available to rinse away the day spent in the sand and ocean. Shipwreck is a great place to hang out. It is open from 10 AM to Sunset and is a fun place to spend the day. It’s lively but never feels crowded. Everyone is incredibly friendly, and it’s easy to strike up a conversation with others. There is live music every Sunday from 4-6PM, which is a fantastic way to wind down the weekend. If you wish to snorkel and forgot your gear, you can rent them from the restaurant. Also, you can rent a paddleboard from a place located just a short walk down the beach.
There are several professional schools on the St. Kitts (Veterinary and Medical). Shipwreck is a gathering place for locals, students, and tourists alike. We come here a few times during each visit to St. Kitts. Shipwreck is our version of “Cheers.” We inevitably see staff and locals that we met on previous visits. It truly feels like home. If you come here, you MUST have a fantastic rum punch! Be sure to ask for Kim. She is our favorite bartender on the island. Shipwreck has other amazing island cocktails, but we’re partial to the rum punch. Of course, there is a full bar and several types of beer to satisfy any taste. We’ve never had a full meal here, but the bar food is excellent. Be sure to try the wings with local hot sauce on the side (if you like it spicy as we do). The fried plantains are also delicious.
Beautiful beach, friendly people, fabulous drinks and snacks. Indeed, Shipwreck is THE place to relax and spend the day with old (and new) friends.
